It's difficult enough to pick up and leave your home to relocate to another state today, with all our conveniences and similarities between one city to the next—same types of restaurants (or actual restaurants), grocery stores, banks, and the list goes on. But to leave the United States in the nineteenth century and move to a foreign country that is sparsely populated and often dangerous takes a special kind of person. Someone uniquely courageous and capable. My wife's grandmother would have been one such person if she had been born in a different time. She was a wonderful lady. And one tough broad. 😉
