PS - I published a three part series for the 90th anniversary of the final run of Bonnie & Clyde in C&I Magazine online in 2024, which I will republish here on Substack this weekend.
Very well said. You are definitely deeply versed in the real history. Martinez herself is more of a folkorist and “activist” (her word) than a historian, whose publications are founded almost exclusively on uncorroborated “oral histories” and, often, more recently created mythologies. Her work regularly evades/ignores established modern scholarship. It’s is of note that WaPo refused to publish a competing article by John Fusco and myself, at that time.

Cool. I'll keep an eye out for that.

She's cute, I'd likely rob a bank for her
Clyde thought she was cute too, and ended up bullet-riddled.
Ya gotta risk it all sometimes!
