An out-of-Stater said, “You Texans look down on other people, don’t you?” ¶ The rancher drawled, “Not that I know of—but we sure as h— don’t look up to anybody!”
The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is currently headquartered at Dallas Executive Airport (KRBD) in Dallas, Texas. The organization was founded in 1957 as the Confederate Air Force at Mercedes, Texas, formally chartered under that name as a non-profit organization in 1961, at what became known as the original "Rebel Field." In 1968, headquarters was moved to a larger facility at the Harlingen, Texas Industrial Airpark. Then in 1991, headquarters was moved to the Midland International Airport, which housed the American Airpower Heritage Museum. While there, by vote in 2001, its name was changed to the Commemorative Air Force. The move to Dallas Executive Airport was initiated in 2014 and completed in 2015 to increase public visibility and accessibility. It currently consists of more than 80 local units with 17 notable wings, squadrons, and airbases, 6 of which are in Texas, and an inventory of over 175 “warbird” aircraft.
So, when it was designated in 1989 by the 71st Texas Legislature as the State Air Force, it was still the Confederate Air Force, headquartered in Harlingen.
Thank you, Jim, not only for the brief history on the Commemorative Air Force, but for also correcting my information on the its location. I've made the change to the piece. Blessings.

I like Mockingbirds. See them almost everyday. Seeing a roadrunner is rare, at least in my part (central) of the state.
Would prefer a redtailed hawk but that’s my opinion
