Second pass: Agree with your notes on The Cowboys on Brown's Nightlinger character. Best lines! The short, blank verse ending something like "but I just don't have the time" is still a tickler.
I've somehow heard Cimmaron's description "mistaken nature" as a half mumbled "mistake of nature" all this time. Thanks.
Depends. My Grandfather was one of the last National Guard Cavary Troopers. Wasn’t allowed, as primary breadwinner, to go to WWI, but his elder brother, estranged from the family, certainly did go. My great Uncle also served briefly in TX. A lot of the Cavalry life is important for me, although I’ve not researched heavily. These accidental discoveries are valuable.
One of the pictures of my grandfather that we have, somewhere in the family, is a gag picture of him on a drill month with the duty of mucking out after the mules. We also have, somewhere, a picture of him in uniform at an exhibition, jumping two horses over a barrier, standing “roman style” with a foot on each saddle.

Blood touching blood set me back on one. I had to stop to look up three-bell mule. Fascinating.
Ha. You're obviously a close reader. I'm glad you learned something from the book, even if the information isn't life altering.

Thanks again.
That’s some great family history.
That great uncle was the black sheep who came to a bad end. I wish I knew more.
Great read! So many nuggets in here. Gosh darn it I love your stories.
Aw shucks, T. Much obliged, amigo.
Well explained.
Thank you, Matthew.
