A stranger’s business ain’t yours. Texas Bix Bender Old style cowhands spent considerable time alone. If in company, they were in the company of those who rode for the same brand. Coming upon an unfamiliar and unknown man in open country produced a natural and wise wariness as to the other man’s identity and intentions, since, from a cowpuncher’s perspective, the range attracted two types of undesirables: thieves (of both cattle and horses) and squatters—fence planters.
